Privacy Policy

uChecker is a menu-bar app for macOS that checks and improves text. It is made by me, Maxim Egorov, an independent developer — I am the person responsible for this app and this policy. This page explains what happens to the text you check and what data the app handles. The short version: uChecker collects no data, and by default everything happens on your device.
No data collection
The uChecker app does not collect personal data. It has no accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising, and contains no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. This website is a separate matter — see "This website" below, including how its hosting provider handles standard server logs.
On-device by default
By default, uChecker checks your text entirely on your Mac: Apple Intelligence (Apple's on-device model, processed locally, not sent anywhere) and Offline spelling (the system spell-checker, fully local, no network needed). In these modes uChecker makes no network connections with your text.
Optional: custom endpoint (bring your own key)
You may optionally configure a custom endpoint — your own OpenAI- or Anthropic-compatible service — to check text with a cloud model. If you do, the text you check is sent over HTTPS to the service you chose, at your direction, using the API key you provide. That key is stored only in your Mac's Keychain. I am not a party to this connection and never receive or store your text. How that third-party service handles your data is governed by its privacy policy, not this one.
Data you store locally
Your preferences (such as your selected mode, languages, and custom prompts) and any API key are stored locally on your Mac — in standard app storage and the Keychain. They are never transmitted to me. You can remove local settings and API keys from the app's Settings; see the Support page for step-by-step instructions.
This website
This is separate from the app. This website uses no analytics and no tracking cookies. Like most websites, the hosting provider may process standard server logs (such as IP address and request time) for security and reliability; these are not used to identify or track you and are not shared with me for any other purpose. Server log retention is controlled by the hosting provider.

Apple, Mac, Apple Intelligence, and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc. OpenAI and Anthropic are trademarks of their respective owners. uChecker is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them.
Children
uChecker is not directed at children. The uChecker app does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will change accordingly. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect in the app.
