The quickest way is from inside the app: open uNotch's Settings, choose Feedback, then Report a problem. That opens a message already addressed to me, with your uNotch version, your macOS version and your language filled in, so there's nothing to go and look up. Nothing is sent until you press Send, and you can edit or delete any of it first.

Writing by hand works just as well: support@uagency.dev. Please include your macOS version and a short description of what you were doing, it helps me answer faster.

System requirements

• To run uNotch: macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later.
• Calendar access: uNotch needs permission to read your Calendar (via Apple's EventKit framework) to show events, countdowns, and reminders.
• Folder access: nothing to grant. The Folder page shows only a folder you pick yourself in an open panel, and the pick is what gives uNotch access, so there's no permission dialog to answer.

Frequently asked questions

What are all the pages in the notch?

They sit side by side. Switch with the tab bar, a two-finger swipe, or by dragging across. Calendar shows today's and tomorrow's events, with reminders and a Join button. Months shows three month calendars at a glance, with a dot on every day that carries an event. System shows CPU, memory and battery, plus network throughput, free disk, battery cycles and health, and a Keep Awake toggle. Weather shows the forecast for a city you choose, and can put today's high and low in the menu bar. Pomodoro works in timed stretches with breaks, and keeps a daily and weekly tally. Timer is a countdown you set by dragging the ring; Stopwatch counts up and records laps. Clipboard keeps your recent copies, one click to put one back. Folder lists files from a folder you choose so you can drag one out. Shelf parks files, text and links mid-drag, and converts a dropped video to a GIF. Color Picker samples any pixel on screen as HEX, RGB or HSL. Any page can be switched off in Settings, Calendar included.

What's free, and what's Premium?

These pages are free and always will be: Calendar, System, Pomodoro, Timer, Stopwatch and Color Picker, as is the menu-bar next-event indicator. Without Premium you can keep four of them on the notch at once; every free page stays free to use, so adding another is a matter of choosing which one to drop, in Settings. uNotch Premium lifts that limit and adds the Clipboard, Folder, Shelf, Months and Weather pages; the System page's Keep Awake toggle and its network, free-disk and battery-health line; and uNotch's own menu-bar readouts: CPU, memory and free disk space, the Pomodoro, Timer and Stopwatch displays, and a menu-bar icon of your own. Put another way: uNotch keeps working with the notch closed, plus your files and your clipboard. It's available as a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription, with the same features while either plan is active. Prices are shown in the app before you buy. Lifetime is no longer sold; earlier lifetime purchases remain valid.

What permissions does uNotch need, and why?

One: Calendar, to show today's and tomorrow's events in the notch and menu bar, remind you before events start, and offer a Join button for meetings. macOS asks only after you press a button in the app, so the dialog never appears on its own. Nothing else needs a permission: the Clipboard, Folder, Shelf, Color Picker and System pages ask macOS for nothing. The Folder page does list your files, but you point it at a folder yourself in an ordinary open panel, and that pick is the permission, and uNotch remembers it so the folder is still there after a restart. Until you choose one, the page just shows a “choose a folder” card. There's no default folder, and no standing access to anything you haven't picked.

Does uNotch read my clipboard?

Only if you have Premium and the Clipboard page switched on. Before that it never looks at your pasteboard at all. When it is on, it keeps your last 10, 20 or 50 text copies (you choose; 20 by default) in memory only: nothing is written to disk, nothing is sent anywhere, and the history disappears when uNotch quits or when you switch the page off. Copies that the source app marked as a password or as transient (the flag password managers use) are skipped before the text is ever read.

What happens to files I drop on the Shelf?

They're copied into uNotch's own storage; your original is never moved or changed. The copy stays until you take it back: it's deleted when you remove the card, when lowering the shelf's capacity trims it, and when you press Clear the Shelf in Settings. Quitting uNotch or switching the page off leaves everything where it is, so the shelf is still there after a restart. Even so, treat it as a place to park things for a minute rather than as storage: it's one folder, in one app, on one Mac, with no versioning and no way to get back a card you delete. Dropping a video on the GIF zone converts it on your Mac and saves the result wherever you point the save panel.

Does the Color Picker record my screen?

No, and it needs no screen-recording permission. macOS's own color sampler does the picking and hands uNotch back a single color. Picked colors are kept as a history (5 to 50, 20 by default) in uNotch's settings on your Mac so you can copy one again; lowering the limit in Settings trims what's already saved.

What leaves my Mac?

Almost nothing, and the one exception is named below. Your calendar, your file names, your copies, your shelved files and your picked colors are read locally and rendered locally. uNotch never sends them anywhere, and there's no uNotch server for them to go to. Your preferences (reminder lead times, per-account browser choices, which calendars are enabled, which pages are on, launch at login) are also stored only on your Mac. Purchases go through Apple; no purchase information reaches me or any third party.

The exception is Weather, which needs Premium and a city you have chosen. Picking that city sends what you type to Apple's MapKit to find matching places, the same way the search field in Maps does; after that, only the city you settled on is sent to Apple's WeatherKit to fetch a forecast, and only while something on screen is actually showing the weather: the Weather page, or the menu bar's temperature reading. Both requests go straight to Apple, with no uNotch server in between, and what you typed is not kept. The Privacy Policy spells this out in full.

How does "Join" work?

When an event contains a recognizable meeting link (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Webex, Whereby, Jitsi Meet, GoTo, FaceTime, RingCentral, Zoho Meeting, a Slack huddle, Yandex Telemost, Kontur Talk or DION), uNotch shows a Join button. Pressing it just opens that link in your chosen browser, the same as clicking the link yourself. uNotch isn't part of the call and doesn't see what happens after you join.

Events or reminders are missing. What should I check?

Open uNotch's Settings and confirm the right calendar accounts are enabled. Also check System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars to make sure uNotch has permission; macOS can revoke it after some system updates.

The Folder page is empty or says it can't read the folder

Open uNotch's Settings, find the Folder page and choose a folder. There's no default one, so until you pick, there's nothing to list. If you had picked one and it's gone empty, the folder has most likely been renamed, moved, or deleted: pick it again in its new place, or pick a different one. There's nothing to fix in System Settings, because uNotch holds no folder permission to grant or revoke.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not inside uNotch: open System Settings → your Apple Account → Media & Purchases → Subscriptions, or find uNotch in the App Store. Cancelling stops the next renewal and keeps paid features until the current period ends. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. A free trial, if one is offered, turns into a paid subscription automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, and you cancel it the same way. If you bought lifetime before it was withdrawn from sale, that purchase remains valid and never renews, so there's no subscription to cancel.

I paid but the features are locked. What now?

Open uNotch's Settings and choose Restore purchases, making sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account you bought with. Restore purchases works for active subscriptions and earlier lifetime purchases; lifetime owners do not need a new subscription. If it still doesn't unlock, email support@uagency.dev and I'll sort it out. Refunds are handled by Apple: request one on reportaproblem.apple.com.

How do I delete my data?

uNotch doesn't store your calendar data, file names, or preferences anywhere but your Mac, and never on a uNotch server. Clipboard history is only ever in memory and goes away when you quit. Shelved copies stay until you delete them: remove the card, lower the shelf's capacity, or press Clear the Shelf in Settings. Those copies, your picked-color history and your settings all live in uNotch's own sandbox container on your Mac, at ~/Library/Containers/xyz.el3ment.notch. Deleting uNotch from Launchpad removes that folder along with the app; if you drag the app to the Trash from Finder instead, delete that folder too. To also revoke its Calendar access, remove uNotch under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars.
